Is a TENS right for you?

- Drug-free pain relief
- Injury specific (use on your back for back pain, your leg for leg pain)
- Covered by most insurance plans
- 24-hour pain relief
- FDA cleared
- Lifetime warranty
What Is a TENS Unit?
TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. A TENS unit is a pocket size, battery-operated device that sends mild electrical impulses to parts of the body to block pain signals.
These impulses can keep pain messages from reaching the brain. They may also raise your level of endorphins, the natural pain relievers your body makes.
For some chronic pain patients, relief lasts for several hours. For others, a TENS unit may help reduce the amount of pain medication they need.
Conditions TENS Units Are Used For
Doctors prescribe TENS units for both acute and chronic pain. Common uses include:
- Arthritis
- Joint pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Low back pain
- Knee pain
A TENS Unit That Fits Your Day
For over 25 years, TENS units have been a portable and affordable way to manage pain. Many patients clip the unit onto a belt and turn it on and off as needed.
The unit runs on batteries, so you can use it at home or at work. Patients with acute knee pain or degenerative arthritis in the knee often use a TENS unit as part of their care.
Using Your TENS Unit Safely
TENS units should be used under the direction of a doctor, physical therapist or occupational therapist. The electrodes go on the skin over or near the area where you feel pain.
Your provider will walk you through the basics, including how to:
- Put on the electrodes correctly
- Operate the unit
- Change the batteries
- Adjust the frequency and voltage
- Set the duration and intensity of each session
The right settings depend on where your pain is and what type of pain you have.
Digital and Analog TENS Units
We carry both digital and analog TENS units. Both are portable and battery operated, and both are used under the direction of your healthcare provider. Conductive garments are also available to use with your TENS unit.
